A group of local physiotherapists and their supporters are planning a rally Friday to protest changes to the model for physiotherapy services in long-term care centres.

They will gather at 12:30 p.m. outside Brant MPP Dave Levac’s Nelson Street office.

In April, the provincial government announced policy changes that

take aim at for-profit physiotherapy clinics in a bid to spend less money and provide more services to senior citizens.

When the changes were announced, Health Minister Deb Matthews said there are more than 1,000 physiotherapy providers in Ontario, but only 94 are designated physiotherapy clinics funded by OHIP and most of those are in Toronto and other urban centres.
