Lila and Bob Pickering could lose a lot more than mobility through the proposed cuts to OHIP’s physiotherapy coverage for seniors.

They risk losing each other.

The rheumatoid arthritis that has gnarled 85-year-old Lila’s right hand has been kept at bay in her left hand through rigorous physiotherapy over the last three months.

Lila’s independence depends on her ability to pick up a cup, a spoon or a fork, move herself from the bed to a walker and self-transfer to the toilet in the washroom of the bachelor-style apartment she shares with her husband at the Chatham Retirement Resort.
