Stop cuts to seniors.”

Those were the words chanted by seniors and physiotherapy professionals during a protest rally at the Chatham Retirement Resort on May 23.

Residents of the retirement home took to the street and their parking lot with signs protesting the upcoming changes the Ministry of Health is making to the way Ontarians will receive physiotherapy treatment.

On April 18, the Ontario government announced it was planning to invest $156 million to improve access to physiotherapy for more seniors. The changes will provide 200,000 more seniors with physio services, exercise classes and fall prevention.

Physiotherapist Tina Bishai said it is great the government is increasing the geographical access, but their enhancement is ensuring less physiotherapy for seniors.
